Watches from Glashütte were and are renowned for their high quality, with the name of the town becoming a seal of approval to many people in the market for a new watch. Glashütte Original emerged from the remains of the state-owned VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe in 1994 and has built quite a following with its four collection pillars, which Martin Green guides us through.

From the time GaryG revealed that he'd added a Patek Philippe Reference 5170P chronograph to his collection, he has frequently been asked two questions: How does it compare to his Patek Philippe Reference 5370P split-seconds chronograph? And how does it compare to Patek Philippe’s prior flagship chronograph, the platinum-encased Reference 5070P?

Joshua pontificates upon the unadorned cleanliness emphasized by the new Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision Enamel. The chapter ring and center inset are gone, and for good reason: enamel. This entire fresh dial is made of oven-fired enamel, with thinner numerals and markers harking back to classic pocket watches or vintage wristwatches, and a cutaway to admire the perfect finish of the 24-second tourbillon.

Many of you are likely to be asking yourselves, “Who is Gerd-Rüdiger Lang?” Understandable. If we told you he founded Chronoswiss in 1983, you might then say, “Ah, yes.” But did you know that Lang, who sold Chronoswiss in 2012, owns a collection of chronographs that might well be the most complete themed collection of this type in the world? Elizabeth takes us through just a few of the treasures in Lang's collection.
Photos from the set of the upcoming film 'First Man' show Ryan Gosling, playing astronaut Neil Armstrong, wearing an Omega Speedmaster on a mesh bracelet. The familiar black bezel and tri-compax chronograph layout are very visible. It also appears he is wearing an as-yet unidentified Omega dress watch in the film as well.

At the highly respected Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute, the El Dorado 21-Year-Old caught the world's attention when it was awarded 98/100, the highest score ever achieved by any rum. It was described as “one of the world’s greatest rum drinking experiences.” Does Ken Gargett agree?

La Montre Hermès belongs to the elite circle of watch manufacturers offering a profoundly poetic expression of timekeeping through its métiers d’art watches. One recent example is the Slim d’Hermès Marché du Zambèze, a vibrant and colorful celebration of African wildlife en miniature.

H. Moser & Cie has launched watches intended to take a jab at the watch industry in one way or the other for three SIHH fairs straight. Here Joshua explains why he thinks that the new Moser Endeavour Flying Hours is so good (hint: star wheel), seen in retrospect following those three funky creations.

The ultra-successful James Bond film franchise celebrated 55 years of existence in 2017 – 'Dr. No' appeared in theaters in 1962 – and with it a host of luxury items used in the world-famous film series, including wristwatches. Bond’s love affair with timepieces began with Sean Connery, who wore a Q-modified, gadget-containing Rolex Submariner in 'Dr. No' even though his creator, author Ian Fleming, personally wore the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer. A multitude of watch models have come since . . . find out what they are right here!

The invitation to a “secret tasting” with James Godfrey was not one Ken Gargett would ever decline. What Godfrey doesn’t know about fortifieds is not worth knowing, and those he has not tasted are probably not worth tasting. Here's what Ken learned . . .

There was a time when viewers didn't consciously pay that much attention to what kind of wristwatches movie characters wore. This often meant that actors wore their personal watches on set, sometimes even when it didn't suit the movie. Today placing a wristwatch in a big film is big business, which also changes the types of timepieces characters now wear.

As we all know quartz became a Greek tragedy, but fortunately one with an eventual happy end for most brands. Well, happy for the Swiss brands but not so much for the American brands, in particular Bulova. Martin Green thinks heat may have played a role here and may well again with the technology showcased by the new Matrix PowerWatch.

In 2006 GaryG spotted two objects of desire at a California dealer: Vianney Halter's dramatic Antiqua and Contemporaine timepieces. They were out of his reach, but in 2007 he found a Contemporaine in white gold offered at a price that was about one-third its original retail value on eBay. What could possibly go wrong?
